Review: Mother Clucker

Mother Clucker by Cat Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

They say opposites attract, but in this case, they might just combust . . .

Hermosa Beach seems to be the place for throwing together unlikely opposites.

My rooster Rowdy and his new crush, Pixy the goat.

Me and the obnoxiously cocky cowboy from Texas . . .

But unlike Rowdy and Pixy, there’s no way I’m going to fall for David Strickland.

Nope. Not gonna happen. I could never be with a man so completely opposed to everything I believe . . . no matter how hot he is.

There couldn’t be two people more different than the beautiful little tree hugger and rooster rescuer Heather and me.

We can’t agree on anything, except that we disagree on everything—at some times more heatedly than other times. And believe me, things are starting to heat up between us, in more ways than one.

She's the last thing I expected to find at an animal shelter in California. But now I found her, I have no intention of letting her go.

I just have to get her on board with that plan.

Mother Clucker is a standalone story inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Bastard. It's published as part of the Cocky Hero Club world, a series of original works, written by various authors, and inspired by Keeland and Ward's New York Times bestselling series.

My Review

Cat Johnson based her Mother Clucker on Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Bastard. Only she used her own character as the MCs.

This was my first by Johnson, and I know it won’t be the last as I loved this story. This was such a fun read that I was sad when it ended. It’s also one I now own with kindle and audible. It’s one my lousy day go-to list. I love how Johnson did with the world-building and brought in Vi and Penelope’s characters. She has done a really perfect job.

Heather and David butt heads from their first meeting. Then fate steps in, and their adventure begins. Can I just say I want Rowdy the Rooster? This story was steamy and hilarious, and just everything I had hoped for with a name like Mother Clucker. If you pick this one up, trust you won’t be disappointed.

If you loved Vi and Penelope’s Cocky Bastard, you’re going to love Cat Johnson’s, Mother Clucker!

Review: Cocky Duke

Cocky Duke by Annabelle Anders
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Mrs. Ambrosia Bloomington, now a widow, is ready to start a new life amongst Mayfair elites without the overarching reach of her late husband, Mr. Harrison Bloomington. With her trunks loaded safely onto her own private carriage, she’s ready to face the world as an independent woman in Regency London.

She does not, however, bargain for cocksure Frenchman, Mr. Charles Cochran Bateman coming along and turning her very ordinary journey into the adventure of a lifetime.

She does not bargain for his laughter, his enthusiasm, nor his Joie de vie.

And blast and fiddlesticks, she certainly is not expecting to experience the sparks that charge the air between them.

And, it seems, apparently, neither is he…

My Review

Cocky Duke was my first in the long list to come of Cocky Hero Club stories, which the books are set in the world of the Cocky Series by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland. Anders based her on Cocky Bastard. This was my first by Anders, but I’m sure it won’t be the last as I’m not really into historical romance. Anders made me rethink that. Made a non-believer into a believer that anything is possible. I’m trying to figure out how to write this review without giving too much away.

It’s a great read with very entertaining characters. Ambrosia and Charles had an immediate attraction. Then the adventure begins for them. I loved the slow burn and the banter between the characters. It was such a great way to see the Cocky Bastard again. If you loved Vi and Penelope’s Cocky Bastard, you’re going to love Annabelle Ander’s, Cocky Duke!

After that, I'll head home to Manitoba for some summer R&R at the family lake cottage.Molly Flynn Nobody's expecting what happens at my wedding, which becomes pandemonium. I need to get out of there. About the Author:
AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR A.M. GEEVER lives in her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, birthplace of the modern zombie genre. She credits her love of all things zombie to her older brothers, whose influence in books, music, and film continues to this day, although her tolerance for puns and movies that are "so bad they're good" is a whole lot lower than theirs. The idea of becoming a zombie because her car runs out of gas gets her to the gas station when she would rather not bother, and she thinks she has a good chance of surviving the Zombie Apocalypse if she can make it the eighth of a mile to Mueller's house--otherwise she's probably toast. Love in an Undead Age is her first novel.
